リチャード・パルトニー

リチャード・パルトニー（英: Richard Pulteney、1730年2月17日 - 1801年10月13日）は、イギリスの医師、植物学者である。

略歴

レスターシャーのラフバラーの非国教会徒の家に生まれた。ラフバラーのグラマースクールを卒業して、薬剤師の見習いとなった。見習い中にマウントソレルに移った後、レスターで医師と薬局を開業した。レスターシャーの植物を研究し、1757年に王立協会のフィロソフィカル・トランザクションズにレスターシャーの植物目録を発表した。1762年の王立協会の会員として認められ、1764年にエディンバラ大学にキナノキに関する論文を提出し、医学博士号を得た。同年、親類の政治家、初代バース伯爵ウィリアム・パルトニーの病気の治療を行ったが、うまくいかなかった。1765年からドーセットシャーのブランドフォードで医師として働いた。

著書にカール・フォン・リンネの生涯と著作について紹介した "A general view of the writings of Linnaeus"（1781年）や、1790年までに3巻となったイギリスの植物学史の大著、"Historical and biographical sketches of the progress of botany in England... " がある。

1790年にロンドン・リンネ協会の会員に選ばれ、1793年にエディンバラ王立協会のフェローに選ばれた。没した後、貝類や鉱物標本、植物標本はリンネ協会に残され、後に大英博物館に収蔵された。

マメ科の属名、Pultenaea Sm.に献名されている。
