エリオット・ソーバー

エリオット・ソーバー（Elliott Sober, 1948年 - ）はアメリカ合衆国の哲学者。ボルチモア出身。ハーバード大学においてヒラリー・パトナムの下で学び、Ph. Dを取得。現在はウィスコンシン大学で教鞭を取り、1989年よりハンス・ライヘンバッハ教授職、1993年よりウィリアム・ヴィラス教授職を勤めている。2003-2005年にはアメリカ科学哲学会会長。専門は生物学の哲学および統計学、確率の哲学。生物学の哲学においては、自然選択説、系統分類学の方法論、最適化理論、利他主義の進化や集団選択、創造論やインテリジェント・デザインなど、統計・確率の哲学においてはベイズ主義や尤度主義、あるいは赤池情報量基準（AIC）などに基づくモデル選択などを巡る論文・著作を多数発表している。
